Bristish Bobby

Today’s character is a British Bobby…not to be confused with an American Bobby who might be my brother. He doesn’t wear hats like this.

Hizzouse

This is just a little illustration I made of the house we moved into a couple months back. We wanted to send out thank you cards to the folks who helped us move and pack. Packing and moving are two of the worst activities ever, so you know your friends and family are amazing people when they help you do one or both of those things. Now I just need to drop those cards in the mail….

WELCOME

Welcome to my brand-stinkin new portfolio site. I’m excited to have my own little slice of the web carved out to display my work in design, illustration and branding. Take a look around and let me know what you think.

A special thanks to Daniel (Parachute Applications) for working so quickly to code this site for me!

Cheers,

Brandi

The Tattoo’d Munchkin

I did some designs for a little pop-up project called The Tattoo’d Munchkin, a modern day take on a boys version of the lemonade stand. Two creative Denver gals have taken designs from local artists and turned them into temporary tattoos. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by for their debut on September 29th, right in front of the new Black Eye Coffee shop from 10-noon. 3408 Navajo St.

ikat pattern

hello friends. long time, no post. i created this pattern recently for someone who wanted to create a wall vinyl for their house. i loved the pattern enough myself that i picked my own colors and made it my desktop background. i figured i’d share the small jpg if you want an ikat pattern background on your compy too. just save and choose the tile preference for your desktop image.

xoxo.

Oh, Ira

“What nobody tells people who are beginners — and I really wish someone had told this to me . . . is that all of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, and it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.” – Ira Glass
